There is a fair amount to like to this story, and I certainly enjoyed it, but the primary cast feels a bit underdeveloped, and while the events leading up to the modern day ending are well paced, the pacing jumps in fits and starts after that, and the romance between the leads is not quite as fleshed out as I would like. This is a decent read if it's on-sale. The urban fantasy elements aren't quite working in the front part of the novel, and one of the main characters is inconsistent with her background. The romance is decent, and the magic elements needed more development.
Joram Darkstone is a singer and musician with the band, Invocation. Unfortunately, her adoptive guardian and patron is still trying to control her life. Naomi Kostopoulos grew up in the Carpathian Mountains where she was trained in magic and martial arts and given the task of guarding the dimensional door which keeps fey folk and magic out of our world. When Joram and Naomi meet, the sparks between them are almost visible to the naked eye.
At 287 pages, author, Redhawk, has plenty of room to thoroughly develop her characters and her plot. Darkstone is a very enjoyable read, and introduces many new ideas and concepts, as well as a very scary villain.
Good book. Surprisingl ending. Will read again.And now I am just making enough words. Bad idea ....get rid of the word count
